Title: Simon VS the Homo Sapiens Agenda

Author: Becky Albertalli

Genre: GLBT, YA, contemporary, fiction

Read/Not Read(my rec): READ, definitely read.

An absolute page turner. 😀

This book has been on my TBR for very very long. But the cover was just not appealing to me. Finally, I decided to read it after going through its blurb.

Blurb:

Sixteen-year-old and not-so-openly gay Simon Spier prefers to save his drama for the school musical. But when an email falls into the wrong hands, his secret is at risk of being thrust into the spotlight. Now Simon is actually being blackmailed: if he doesn’t play wingman for class clown Martin, his sexual identity will become everyone’s business. Worse, the privacy of Blue, the pen name of the boy he’s been emailing, will be compromised.

MY Thoughts:

This book is such a light hearted read.

Simon is such a fun character and he is so relatable. It was just so nice reading from his point of view.

There are lots of other characters that I had to keep track of, and except for Martin, no one else is a hot effing mess.

I really liked the fact that both families were absolutely cool with their son coming out.  I just felt so good and I loved how supporting they are of him. Of course, there are tons of moments of his internal dilemma of Simon before telling his family and friends.

Even though the circumstances leading up to the coming out was not that great, it was freaking horrible but I just loved how supporting everyone was for Simon. Also, being in high school some pranks were, of course, bound to happen but I freaking loved their drama teacher and even Taylor.

Oh! And all the Harry Potter references… they are all over the place. 😀 😀 😀

 “What’s a dementor?”
I mean, I can’t even. “Nora, you are no longer my sister.”
“So it’s some Harry Potter thing,” she says.”

This was just such a feel good book and it was a quick read. Despite the blackmail and tension, it is really a light hearted read. I had a huge smile stuck on my face after finishing it. Looking forward to more from Becky Albertalli.

  1. I’ve had this book on my to be re-read list for a while. The first time I read it, it took like four hours and though I remember everything major, I now prefer to read my books a little slower to more fully enjoy them.
